Boys Junior High Soccer
Both the North Pocono High School and Junior High School at North Pocono achieved major milestones this past week. The High school scored its 1100th goal and the Junior High School scored its 1,000th goal.
The high school program was established in 1989 with PIAA. The Junior High School Program was established in 2001 when Rick Rava acknowledged the need to provide JHS students with an opportunity to play organized sports. Soccer was becoming very popular at that time and this cemented what would become a “feeder” effort to improve the level of play at the HS level by providing soccer players with more experience playing organized soccer.
North Pocono High School’s Jonah Yurkanin scored the 1,100th goal on a Penalty kick versus Wallenpaupack High School team. Nicholas Martin scored the 1,000th goal for the Junior High School off a corner kick put in play by Zachary Evans. Congratulations to both Jonah and Nicholas for achieving this milestone. Jose Joga, Coach of the Junior High School Boys soccer team stated “This achievement does not only belong to Jonah and Nicholas but it belongs to EVERY soccer player that has come through both programs since their inception.”
Both achievements are a testament to a long established commitment to excellence in soccer by the players, the coaches, the North Pocono School and the parents commitment to support our community’s soccer players. Thank you and congratulations to our North Pocono Soccer Community.
